Rotating screen for ipad

On one iPad, after the update, I could not chat. Someone told me to rotate 90* and that worked, but it was a hassle,, so I delayed updating my other iPad fearing the same. Sadly, it updated itself now I have to rotate to chat. Is there anything that can be done to have it like before? No rotation for chatting. Thanks

Get an older iPad which can no longer be updated. I have an older second generation also which still functions normally.
