Date format in forum

Hi AIDAN

The format of the dates as used in the topics and replies, as well as date joined, leaves me a little confused.
Is it me, only, or are others left also confused?
All else is well

Hi AIDAN
You have not indicated your intentions as to the repairing of the dating format in the current forums and discussions.
The format currently used makes it nearly impossible to identify:-
Date of joining, member.
Date of posting.
Date of replies.
This aberration, in my experience, makes it a little difficult to identify if the current status of the inquiry or topic has been rectified by update, or remains unanswered and thus needing a reply or further attention.
As I see it the last four numbers, in most cases but not all, indicate the relevant year, so far as more recent posts are concerned.
However this identifier becomes more confusing as the dating format refers to apparent older posts.
Happy New Year.

This is standard forum software (phpbb3), not something I have made myself. The dates show up pretty clear to me e.g. "by tmno2 » Sep 25, 2020".

Hi Aidan
I don’t think I’m seeing what you are seeing.
Viewing the forum with an iPad using iOS 14.3 as seen in the attached photo of the discussions page,
IMG_2511.png
IMG_2511.png (589.55 KiB) Viewed 33893 times
Clearly I’m seeing something different to that which you see.
If this view is as supplied in the original forum software then maybe there has been an update to that software to bring it up to date with current widely used operating systems.
I would take this update step very carefully though, try it out in a sandbox first as it may have side effects other than those you desire.

Yes I've never seen that. I've no idea if anyone else is seeing it either - no one has mentioned it before.

Have you tried logging in on a different browser? Or try logging out and logging in again. You may need to clear the browser's cache also.

Hi again, thanks for your suggestion, tried it on CHROME and it worked perfectly, every date field in the forum was correctly formatted, and the dates were readable as one would normally expect.
I will try to dig into SAFARI to see why it produced the unusual formatting as shown in my posting.
Will get back to you if the SAFARI view can be adjusted by the actions you suggest.
Best wishes.

So far:- SAFARI
Viewing forum without logging in, no date formatting problems.
Viewing after log in, date formatting as in above screenshot.
iPad rebooted/restarted:-
Same as previous, more research required.

Same deal with CHROME
Will try FIREFOX (white)
. . .
Same again,
Trying Firefox (black)
....
Same again
Not logged in .....all ok
Logged in .....date fields stuffed!
...........
This looks like much more research required..
Ah well...

Click your name (on top right usually), select "User Control Panel", "Board Preferences", "My Date Format".

Hi Aidan
Well now!
You fixed it, congratulations and thank you.
My research was certainly leading me to deduce it was forum specific, but you got there first.
Brilliant!!!
